I'm not a doctor so take all of this with a grain of salt - but in general, when I have the time in a few weeks to try to see what kinds of research are out there, I expect to discover that just like about every other interconnected system in the body, hormones affect lots of other organs and systems other than just mood.
I mean some womens' breasts increase in size when on the pill, right? Her body's reaction to a change in hormone levels.
I would expect to find that the changes in hormone level affect some other system - maybe kidneys, maybe the vagus nerve, something - something that either temporarily alters the body's electrolyte balance (sodium, potassium, magnesium, etc) or sensitizes nerves, or something such as that, that creates an environment where electrical signals either overwhelm the heart or are in insufficient supply, causing the irregular rhythms.
Whether there's a quick fix for that (eat some bananas, take magnesium supplements, etc) or not, I'm not sure. But I'll see what I can dig up.
