Any fellow Palp sufferers notice they have a low resting pulse rate?
Hi Folks,
Just a quick one really i wondered how many, if indeed any of you out there. Who suffered palps of all kinds have noticed or been told that they have a very low resting / base pulse rate? I know when i had one of my Holters that it picked up that i had some Bradycardias noted (slow pulse) with my slowest recored during that period of 42. This was during sleep. I wonder if there is any link to having extra beats by way of the heart compensating. Or thinking its beating too slow so throwing in an extra beat therefore meaning that slow base heart rate would be a pre cursor to ectopic? just a thought i would be interested if anyone knows any facts or theories themselves. |

I've HEARD ( doesn't necessarily mean it's true) that the lower your HR is, the more likely for PVC's to occur. Maybe that's why when certain people get their HR up while exercising, the PVC's seem to go away for awhile. But then, there are those who get PVC's while exercising. Sorry, I'm sure this doesn't help! I wanna know what my resting HR is, but I'm such an idiot, the more I focus on taking my pulse, the higher it goes!

automaticity is definately a factor. Heart muscle cells WANT to beat, and it's the ones with the itchy triggers that will get the whole thing to beat prematurely/irregularly. Seems to make sense that the longer between beats the more likely to have a misfire.
Could be irritable cells on a valve that got miffed years ago - too much RF from cell phones - unknown concoctions of chemicals accumulating in our (nervous) system - ???? - So then you add this to Brady in an otherwise healthy heart and Bam Bam here we go. Interesting theory we have Neil! |

Interesting stuff folks. I just got to thinking more about it as my Grandfather lived for over forty years with various ectopics passing away at the age of 94 (NOT HEART RELATED) he had a low resting pulse rate.
(also gives me faith) Ps Gillespiefive i know what you mean its called white coat syndrom. its like when at the Docs and having your BP or pulse checked it always goes up. |

My BP goes up when I go the doctor too....if I'm in the ER my heart will start skipping away! But to answer your question my latest holter showed a HR of 40 when sleeping and that is only on 12.5 of a beta blocker in taken in the mornings and the doctor actually told me to go up! He said don't worry about it. But as far as my PVCs go, I get them more at rest and they def. feel worse(the pause is longer) the slower my HR is!

UGH! It's the stupid pausing that gets to me! It's like the longer the pause the "faintier" (if it's even a word) I start to feel...
I def get more PVC's when I tired...it's like the more rested and relaxed I am the more I start getting PVC's, like 3 in 15 mins! I wore a 24 holter once and it showed a pulse rate of 40 while sleeping also, my cardio wasn't phased, I was at the time taking 12.5 mg of atenolol |

atenolol will slow your heart down. It does mine.
My heart beats around 80 without atenolol and around 72 with the drug. For me, it doesn't matter. When the PVC's decide to act up, my heart can be going slow or fast. And Julie as you know, for me I hate the pauses too. When you call them in, is it just a PVC? Jodie |

Just a little note, I got a copy of my holter results today and my two runs of NSVT occured when I was sound asleep with a HR of 47 and 52, so maybe there is a correlation....maybe not?? Out of my 117 couplets most were during the day and even when I was having 250 PVCs an hour....i only had 10 couplets....later when I was having 114 PVCs an hour, I had like 16 or 17 couplets....also my heart rate was in the low 60s or high 50s all day.
Now I am sick with a cold and my HR has been 80-90 all day and I have had barely any PVCs! Go Figure! |
