cold remedied?

Hi my peeps

Question... As you all know we are not to take decongestants.... So, what do you all do or colds? Sneezing, running nose, cough etc?

Jodie told me Claritin for allergies but she really just uses saline spray. I hate suffering but not sure what I can do. I used a Vix stick, saline, warm rags on my sinuses etc.... Miserable!!!

Anyone ever try this stuff?

Avoid any cold medicine that contains decongestants. According to the American Heart Association, decongestants should not be used by the 100 million Americans with high blood pressure because decongestants can raise blood pressure even more. People with high blood pressure should use a decongestant-free cold medicine, such as Coricidin HBP.

The rise in BP can't be permanent, right?

If it is allergies, you can safely take Allegra. That's what I take. I take NO decongestants. Ibuprophen helps my sinus headaches and there is speculation it helps to reduce inflammation in the sinuses.

I use Nasacort nasal spray. Cortosteriodal nasal sprays are fine with PVCs--no impact at all. Unfortunately, they are all prescription, and you need to see the doctor, obviously. I am using Nasacort for the past week, as I have been fighting a cold.

Claritin did not bother my PVCs. I would not take Claritin D. Nasacort is another great idea. I bet your doctor would perscribe that for you if you asked. They take a little longer to work because they work on the problem, not just relieve the symptom. But, they are safe it seems for PVCs.

Didn't you just say in an earlier post that it raises BP and so people shouldn't take it? Am I missing a piece of info somewhere?

Ah! I forgot about the steroidal nasal spray! That stuff is awesome in the winter months for me, and I've just gotten through battling a 2-week long cold with lots of sinus issues. Need to call my doc and get another Rx for that. Sometimes messy, but works really well.
