Question Do you need a referal to see a Cardiologist?

I am wondering, do you need a primary care physician to refer you to a cardiologist? I really would like to see one, but, I have not been told to do so. I really think if I saw one, they would help to calm my fears and give me some peace of mind, at least for awhile. My regular doc has ordered the echo and holtor, but, I have never seen a true cardiologist about my problems, they just write results on my tests and my doc reads them to me.

Anyway, just wondered, I am so tired of living in fear every single day.

It depends on your coverage. Some do, some don't. You can find a cardio in your network and just call and ask - they'll be able to tell you right away.

if you like your primary and trust his judgement, a referral might be the way to go. I had a cardio guy WAAAY before I had a primary though. I just picked a hospital that looked real fancy and called 'em! : )

If that is how your insurance works (meaning you need a referral) then just ask your doctor. I'm sure they will be happy to help ease your stress level by referring you to a cardio. I don't even have a primary. My only 2 doctors are a cardiologist and an ob/gyn. I go to my cardio for everything. Even if I'm sick with the flu. The best part about that is he knows me, he knows my issues and I can trust that he gives me medicine that won't aggrivate my condition. (well except for the xanax. I'm still afraid to take that).
