Endoscopy and still worried about my beats
So I'm having an endoscopy done next Tuesday and worried about being "sedated". They are giving me something that doesn't put you out but sedates you so much that you may fall asleep. I've never done anything like that and am worried my heart will act up. I've been nervous about my wierd beats lately. They feel like 4 PVCs in a row. They are strong hard fast beats- bangbangbangbang then normal rhythm- I know I keep mentioning them but they feel so different than when my heart skips or double beats. What the hell are these beats, should I be concerned and will they kill me?? That's what I've been concerned about. Sedation and beats. Ugh.

I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy in August of this year. They gave me Propofol for anesthetic and lidocaine to drink. I had no ill effects and have been diagnosed with NSVT. They did however make me have my procedure in the hospital as opposed to the Endo clinic in case something wacky happened.

Oh, and one more thing... in regards to your hard fast beats - BANGBANGBANGBANG.
I can only speak from my own personal experience, but will share this anyways. Please don't interpret this as medical advice or diagnosis. When I get PVC's I feel a hard beat - BAM! That's the beat after the PVC. It's stronger because my heart has had longer to fill up with blood. When I have my NSVT, I can barely feel them. Them being individual beats. A) because my heart is going so fast, and B) because my heart is barely filling with blood during them. I have had NSVT runs that felt like an incredibly long pause. I have had them feel like twitching with no discernible beat, I have had them feel like a painful pressure in my throat. I've had a 9-beat run that felt like a super-strong couplet. Have you ever had monitoring done? What you're feeling could be anything really. But it's less likely that these hard beats are coming from your ventricles. More likely they're coming from your atria. |

It hasn't been caught on a moniter before, because it's new. I've only caught PACs and PVCs. I think for me PACs feel like flutters and PVCs feel like thuds. Ya these I can definetly feel and count them- sometimes it's just doubles then other times triple plus. Beatbeatbeat normal rhythm or beatbeatbeatbeat normal rythm but no huge pound afterwards.

Katie we are having the same thing and I really think it is coming from the atria. It is definately different than the normal PVC I feel. There are no early beats, no thuds afterward. Just normal beat,2flutterquickbeats, normal beat. It doesn't feel like much of a difference than a normal rythym in my pulse except that those 2 quick beats are a little fainter and faster. But it is very noticable in my heart. Weird for sure. So I was getting PVCs today and those flutterbeats for about 2 hours. A flutter beat here and there is no big deal to me and I have felt them before. Maybe once a week. But, feeling them over and over again can get annoying. I am sure they are benign. Plus my doctor told me that I will be okay and you will too.
I understand worrying about the versed you get prior to those procedures but I have never heard of anyone that deals with skips and flutters having a problem with it. As a matter of fact....people seem to love that drug! Jeff had that procedure done and apparently was flirting with all the nurses after they gave him the Versed! Don't worry. I feel better knowing that you are feeling the same thing. This is just one more variation of benign arrythymias that go along with the PVCs and PACs. |
