EP Study: What to Expect?
Hi Guys,
Just having some pre-EP study stress and wanted to talk to some others who have gone through the procedure. My electrophysiologist doc is having me discontinue my Beta Blocker on 9/5, four days before the test, and I'm kind of freaking out because my heart acts up when I'm not taking it. I will be having the test without any sort of anesthesia too - he won't be giving me twilight or general, said I have to be fully alert during the entire thing. Ugh! I'm not concerned about the groin thing, I'm sure that'll be good and numb, but I am getting nervous about the rest of it. 1. Can you feel the catheters going up through your body? If so, is it painful or uncomfortable in any way? 2. What does it feel like when they apply stimulation to the heart? 3. If they are able to provoke arrhythmias, how long to they leave you in them before they convert? 4. How bad does conversion hurt? If they do have to convert, do they then give you something or not? 5. Anything else I should be aware of? |
