Fast Heartbeat

I have had palps for 20 years. On 100 mg atenolol daily and xanax for anxiety. Have had testing over the years--a holter last July...all show nothing but benign palps...
Im sitting at work at my desk and just had something happened that hasnt happened before-of course I freak out---
I was so happy because I havent had any palps today--then suddenly I get that familiar feeling-the thump-then i feel my pulse and it suddenly speeds up, just stuck in a fast beat. Now, it wasnt "racing"...but it was fast beats---after the skipping and jumping--only lasted about 15 seconds and now Im back in regular rhythm...but it scared me BIG time. ANybody else ever had this?? I felt immediate panic when it happened....

I get that every once in a while. Last time it happenned I was at dinner. I felt that flutter and my heart started beating fast for about 15 seconds or so. Don't worry. However I know that panic that sets in so well. Then you are focused on it for hours to see if it will happen again. I've explained these to my doctor and he is not worried. We all get them now and then. Try to have a good day!
Take care

Thank you for answering me so fast!! You are absolutly right---here I am...sitting at my desk at this very moment...and I am, as you said it "focused on it for hours to see if it will happen again".
I will really work on it this afternoon to forget----it was just something new for me...I always have the PVC's and skipping stuff....but because of the Atenolol, one thing Ive never had to think about was fast beats. It caught me off guard and threw me immediatly into a panic attack.
I need to unfocus....lol

Yes, even on atenolol it can happen. There have been times that the fast beat lasted more than a few minutes so I took another 1/2 of the atenolol. It corrected if quickly. Keep that in mind for reassurance. I bet it hasn't happenned again huh?

Jeff is infamous around these parts
My PAT has never even lasted 15 seconds, but the times that it did happen I had all kinds of strange sensations afterward - Early on I felt a kind of nauseating rush of blood and heat to my head and a tingling in my extremities. But oddly, once I was diagnosed by a cardiologist and told it was benign (and gave it enough to to sink and and for me to actually believe it), the physical symptoms after my short bursts of PAT are almost nothing.

Sounds like you must already be in the care of a doctor, likely even a cardiologist - I might mention this to the cardio just to see if s/he would want to run any tests. It's probably nothing at all, but they usually like to play it safe.

Good luck.

i don't know if I ever had tachy like that, but a lot of times just when I breathe my HR will go up and down, and my doctor said it was nothing to worry about.
