I'm a guy but I'll jump in a little, anyway. This is a topic I intend to research this winter, now that our construction season is over. But I can say this - PVCs and other arrhythmia issues can be and are affected by hormones, and it's something that most knowledgeable cardiologists are aware of.
I don't think they have a fix for it, other than anti-arrhythmic drugs, but they know the phenomenon exists, and the web is blanketed with women who have similar experiences and symptoms. I'm not sure that makes you feel any better, but at least you know it's biological and NOT in your head. |

Jeff,
Thanks, you are so sweet. Most guys don't believe in the "hormonal" issues/causes of woman. My cardio said PSVT/SVT shows up most often in middle aged woman but for unknown reasons why. Hmm....mybe we women should lobby for a government study to learn some info and answers- thus also helping millions of men live better too! I will be VERY interested in what you find in your research. Thanks again. ![]()

Well, I for one am certain that PVC's are triggered by hormones. I had them for hours last night and I started my period yesterday (sorry Jeff...tmi)
It bummed me out because we had a big Xmas party last night. I was so tired when I finally went to bed and laid there from 1am - 3am with my heart skipping. Plus I can really feel a difference mentally a few days prior. It just sucks. I'm so tired tonight and of course lack of sleep causes them to so I might be in for another crappy night. Jodie |

Yes Jodie, it is NOT fun!! It always seems worse for me after a big loud, event ( stress??)
I never had any problems til perimenopause time.... grrrrr!! I am praying that after "the midlife change" I will go back to more "normal" or how I was before all this started. If anyone has any tips on dealling with this pass them on PLEASE!! Or maybe Jeff's research will find some good info and helpful answers. Go Jeff go!!! Take care and Happy holidays to all. |

Don't you just hate that...people party, drink, sing, dance, have fun and then go to bed and sleep. (like my husband). I on the other hand barely drink and lie in bed for two hours with PVC's up the ying yang.
They actually scared me a little that night because I'm not used to getting them every third beat and every once in a while I would get them for every third beat. Funny, thing is, I sat up at 3am and took some advil. Layed back down and they were gone. Just like that. amazing. They were the type I felt in the top of my stomach and those really bother me. I'm not a doctor so take all of this with a grain of salt - but in general, when I have the time in a few weeks to try to see what kinds of research are out there, I expect to discover that just like about every other interconnected system in the body, hormones affect lots of other organs and systems other than just mood.
I mean some womens' breasts increase in size when on the pill, right? Her body's reaction to a change in hormone levels. I would expect to find that the changes in hormone level affect some other system - maybe kidneys, maybe the vagus nerve, something - something that either temporarily alters the body's electrolyte balance (sodium, potassium, magnesium, etc) or sensitizes nerves, or something such as that, that creates an environment where electrical signals either overwhelm the heart or are in insufficient supply, causing the irregular rhythms. Whether there's a quick fix for that (eat some bananas, take magnesium supplements, etc) or not, I'm not sure. But I'll see what I can dig up. |
