The best way is via referrals. Ask your primary doctor as to whom he/she would recommend as a cardiologist, and get a recommendation for that first. Seeing an electrophysiologist before a cardiologist makes little sense, as the cardio doctor is in a better position to see if you even need the follow up.

I started with a cardio several years ago and they sent me to an electrophysiologist. So I have only seen EPs since. I have seen 2 cardios and 2 EPs...
8 years ago - Cardio said SVT...but I am fine, ignore it and take Beta Blocker. 7 years ago - electrophysiologist said probably "just IST", I am fine, take Beta Blocker and live with it. 6 years ago - Cardio (new one) said the same thing as first cardio. 1 year ago & now - electrophysiologist (new one) said PACs and short burst of SVT and I should have ablation Thus, my confusion... I will ask my GP. However, in this city the medical community is pretty much a monopoly by one hospital and they only seem to recommend each other. But I will ask. Thanks!! |

Yes and no. If she's had symptoms for years, chances are that the condition is the same. PVCs and PACs are often the same for years and years. I doubt that the new electrophysiologist looked at the most important thing--the medical history. If she wants a second opinion, go to a new cardio doctor, and let him say that there is an issue that requires the intervention of an electrophysiologist to fix a basically benign condition. We all know what the cardiologist will say. |
