passing out question....
If a PVC makes you pass out, is that a huge concern? Reason I ask, is because about 3 years ago I was shopping, and felt what felt like 2 or 3 PVC's in a row which was unusual for me. So I kinda held my breath and bore down to try and make it stop, and then within seconds my neck felt really tight , and I felt like I was going to faint real quick. My daughter was with me and said I got real red in the face. Then suddenly, things went back to normal and I panicked! Didn't know why my neck felt tight. I never passed out, and I never had any chest pain. I never told my doc this. It has only happened one time. Any thoughts?

The near-passing out quite possibly had more to do with your bearing down than your PVCs. I wish I could remember the URL for it, but I just saw a funny video where I get pressed a heavy barbell over his head. It was obviously more than he was used to. The muscles tensed to make that lift are a lot of the same ones you used to bear down.
After the lift he dropped the barbell, took two steps, then fell flat on his face. Unconscious. There are times when after a meal, if I'm on the floor reading my kids a story, I'll stand up quick and need to hold onto something. It's just the body reacting to inputs, opening up arteries and veins, reducing blood pressure really quickly, which can cause you to pass out. And think of the breathing/stethoscope thing the doctor always does, that we were talking about recently - it almost always gets me close to passing out, and it does to most others, too. |

Julie - changing eating alone won't do much, especially in the short term, because your body just gets used to the reduced calorie input and slows your metabolism.
Gotta exercise, too. Well, what I get is PAT/PSVT, and I get those same sensations, the red face, hot feeling - I really think it's about the head and not the heart for that particular symptom. If your brain and head aren't getting enough oxygen because your heart isn't working properly, you get pale (lack of O2 and blood flow) and pass out. I told this story on MedHelp, I think. I was riding on my exercise bike a number of years ago and was wondering how long I'd have (during exercise) to call someone if my heart stopped working before I passed out. So during the middle of the exercise, heart rate around 150-160, I held my breath and watched the clock. At about 8-9 seconds everything started to go dark. Really fast. I let out the air and started breathing again but still could feel myself starting to slump over/fall sideways on the bike. Everything kicked back in and I was fine a few seconds later. But I never felt hot. I never felt the same sensations I felt when I had the bursts of PAT. And the blood flow to my brain was clearly stopped during this experiment. And I was most certainly about to pass out. So that's kinda why I think it's a fright reaction more than anything - just basing it on my own little self-experiments. I know. Looney tunes. But whatever - how else am I gonna find out? |

Lol! Better you then me! I was with my friend this afternoon, as soon as I got out of her truck, I felt this crazy pressure radiating from neck to my head, like my blood pressure suddenly shot up the moment I stood on the ground!
Well anyway, this the SAME way I feel when my heart starts doing it's crazy erratic beating! Except more so...it beats irregular and fast, looong pause and slow irregular beats, this happens off and on for a few mins, maybe a couple but it regardless however long it is....it's way to long for me! I have started exercising on my days off...slow but I do get my booty moving..lol! I just probably need to be more consistant...in my eating and my exercise! |
