Zoloft has INCREASED my anxiety!!!

Oh my god!!! I saw a phyciatrist about my panic/anxiety and she put me on 50mg zoloft. The first day it made me feel sleepy and stoned but then that night i experienced the worst anxiety ive ever had for 5 hours straight. Now I just woke up and guess what Im still having anxiety terribly. This is crazy. I feel like im on speed. Im calling the office right now. Has anyone experienced this with zoloft?

I am on Zoloft but I started out with a really low dose (25 mg) to get me used to it because I have BAD anxiety and seem to react badly to all medications. I had to work up to the 50 mg dose so it may be too much all at once for you. Sometimes using an anti-anxiety medication temporarily while you're getting used to medication will help, too - I used Xanax. I have tried almost all the anti-depressants and Zoloft is actually the only one I can tolerate. Prozac, Effexor, Wellbutrin and Lexapro all gave me really bad anxiety. I won't use Paxil because it can cause weight gain.

You had a reaction on Day 1?

I don't know you from Adam, but you don't do X, do you?

It's really unusual to get much of a reaction on day 1. I've taken it on and off, mostly on, and I don't get a reaction of any kind, good or bad, for a few days after I start.

Hmm.

It is a bona fide side effect of Zoloft. Antidepressants can cause agitation until the body gets used to them. The theory on the drug therapy is to balance the "highs and lows," and that is what an antidepressant does. If you are that stressed by it, perhaps another medication might work better. That is your doctor's call. Frequently, the agitation goes away in a couple of days.

same reaction i had. the first 4 days on zoloft were hell. it can cause anxiety the first day. takes about a week before the side effects go away, ask your doc for a proscription for ativan or xanax to help you through the first week hump. also 50mg is a high dose to start, thats what they started me at, ask them if you can cut the pills in half till you get used to it, 25mg is the starting zoloft dose.

Im glad someone else has experienced this. Its terrible. I took only a half this morning and my skin is crawling. Tried calling the nurse again and got the voicemail so waiting on a callback. Until then im not taking any more. Id rather deal with the anxiety without anything then feel like this.

well if the anxiety goes away, i believe the benefits will outwiegh the initial side effects but then again it can just be a bad drug for you. it worked fine for me for 8 months then i stupidly stoped taking it which was bad cold turkey

I did the same thing after being on paxil for almost a year. Holy hell that was a week of insanity.
