The down side to getting old

Is there really an up side?
Anyway - I've been working out like a man possessed lately - lots of cardio work at least 5 days a week, and just started mixing in weights.
And then my right knee came a-calling. In my right knee I have a medial meniscus that looks like a pumpkin about two weeks after Halloween: misshapen and ugly. It's been in various stages of decay since I was about 18, but it hadn't been bothering me for at least two years. Until yesterday.
I have a very fancy custom knee brace that helps, taking the pressure off that side of my knee, reducing bone-on-bone contact and giving what's left of that part of the meniscus room to breathe and maybe even heal. But I hate wearing it. Reminds me that I'm getting old.
The knee doesn't take anywhere near the pounding on my recumbent stationary bike as it does running, but I hate riding that thing, too.
The sacrifices we make for health and beauty.
Looks like the recumbent bike and I are going to become good friends.

Hi Jeff, good to hear your working hard. I had a problem knee also and had to have key hole surgery and micro fracture that seems to hhave sorted it out...for now. However my ectopics have been playing up again reciently and so i have had abut a three month lay off exercise. How has the extreme exercise affected your ectopics?
Have your noticed more during exercise? any big thuds that prevent you form taking an in breath duriong exercise? (this is one of my many issues!). As a side issue and point of interest, I am noticing a bit of a link to increased sugar intake and increased ectopics also chocolate!!!Posted 12-28-2009 at 02:22 PM by Neil

I'm going through that "old" issue now...waaah...I just turned 40 on October 13th! I hated it...but I feel like if I started working out then maybe 40 wouldn't be so bad
But look at Valerie Bertinelli....need I say more?
And like everyone else, I'm sure, I really want to get in the best shape possible....I will try and do Pilates, I heard they aren't so jarring, and maybe some walking...I can do this...right? I just need to quit being scared...Posted 01-05-2010 at 07:05 PM by jsuter69
