Ran 6 miles today

I SO love the Nike + iPod thing I got for Christmas - it accurately measures how far you've run and gives you (some) progress updates, on-demand updates, and when you kick a little extra ass? I found out today that Lance Armstrong has a pre-recorded congratulatory message for you.
So cool.
And I always hated running when I didn't know how far I was running, only how long - and so I never knew if I was making progress or not - with this I can run anywhere and know how far I've gone. Makes for more interesting runs!
And I had a few skips while I ran. Big deal. So does everyone.
My pace wasn't fast by any stretch - 9:03/mile over the whole 6, faster at the start, slower at the end, but it felt really good.

Thanks Susie.
I have a wish for you for the new year. My wish for you is to have a 2012 that follows in the footsteps of Joel Goodsen. You know, Tom Cruise's character from Risky Business.
"Sometimes...you just have to say 'what the f@#$. Take some chances.'"
Get out there and take some chances. Go running. Turn that platonic boyfriend into a Fridaynightmonkeylove boyfriend. Go live, you know?

Why thanks! I don't know if I'm proud of that, I just thought I should post that kind of thing more often, to maybe help other people feel like they can have their normal lives back, because look, there's this average guy who's doing it, so why can't I?
But it also feels really good to work out the stresses of the day on a run, to come back panting and exhausted.
Thanks for your sweet words.

You are doing great, Jeff. I think it is important for everybody to feel that they are getting their normal life back, and ignoring the PVCs, as we cannot control them, anyway. I've been working out as well, and while I cannot run those distances anymore (one knee is very badly damaged), I race walk 2-4 miles 5x a week. I agree that exercise is essential for good physical and mental health. Bravo to you, and keep running! :)Posted 01-09-2012 at 03:25 PM by dr461

What's wrong with your knee?
I have one medial meniscus that has looked like a Ronco inside-the-egg-egg-scrambler for the last 20 years, so I'm running on borrowed time, but I'm hoping those injections you can get, as well as knee replacement will at some point extend what I can participate in.
Also, when I'm under about 205 pounds, my knee is a lot less cranky.
But thanks, and like I said - I just want people to see an average Joe doing his thing and being OK.
Good on you on the race walking - you must have very swively hips!Posted 01-09-2012 at 03:34 PM by Jeff

Swively hips! I swear you crack me up. Here and damnyouautocorrect.com my two new stress reliefs. Forget running! Ha! No I'm just joking I'm going to start cardio real soon. I feel so exhausted from my kids though that by the time I do yoga and/or pilates I'm pooped. I know you get more energy when you workout but I'm non stop except for my daily phone breaks to check out the boards - I can't even get out the computer to do that. Do you run in the early AM?Posted 01-09-2012 at 11:17 PM by Katie

Well Katie, I'm pretty fortunate, really. I run my own business in a construction-related field, and so this time of year things are pretty slow, so I spend my time working on the web, spending time with my kids, working around the house, etc. So I have some freedom as to when I run. Not total freedom, but some. Usually what I do is spend some time on the computer in the morning, and then by 9 or 10am I need a break, so I put on the cold weather running clothes (cold compression clothing is a miracle!) and head out for a run. But I can also run on our treadmill after the kids go to bed, or lift weights then, too. I've been happy with my cardio effort lately, but I need to get some lifting in there somewhere, too. Though I'm interested in trying some of the yoga on the Wii fit, because I suspect it's far harder than meets the eye. But I'm not nearly as flexible as some people - just not very bendy.
Glad you like it here!
